Besides building a bridge for other chemist in the field, from textbooks, we can see the purpose is to further human life. Chemical reactions occur naturally, and textbooks dissect these natural occurrences and explain the mysterious phenomena. An example, coming from Clayden's organic chemistry book, is carbohydrates. Organic chemist seek to synthesize these large molecules, ones that are necessary for the continuation of life. The rhetoric that the authors use is an illuminating tone, but the seriousness can be felt. Authors are passionate about the field, and try to bring in as many cool applications as possible to the forefront, to really grab the readers attention.

Within the general outline of organic publications, the experimental purpose is embedded. Chemist write as though they are building a bridge from one universal mystery to another. This is done so that another chemist can easily come and replicate their procedure it thus allowing them to potentially complete their own research. Chemist write from a perspective that is extremely informative to the audience, however most times if the reader does not research in the topic field of the publication, they may be confused.
